I finally shipped off my tax information to the accountant, you know the drill, find all of your receipts, get your records straight, and then pray you don't have to ante-up anymore than you already have.
Today, I am staring at my property tax bill for 2007. As I glanced at the enormous amount of taxes I have to pay for services I don't use, I am having the same revelation that I normally do this time of year.
See, unlike many of you, we pay higher taxes to live in a nice home, but we don't have the luxury of sending our kids to a quality school for the dollars we pay. In fact, the public schools are so bad that we have had to send our son to a private school for 10 years.
How bad are the public schools? Here's an answer that requires no futher description. 26 years ago, I worked at a boys prison for two months. The school, children, and faculty at the prison were head over heals above the schools in our area. Nuff said.
As citizens of this great land, we begin to realized that most of everything we have learned are based on partical truths. For example, the old timers taught us that debt is bad, and saving is good. This is a true statement, but it should come with a disclaimer.
For example, if you pay-off your mortgage, you are under the false impression that you own your home. Oh, but do you really? No, you don't. You still have to pay property taxes. If you don't pay your property taxes, you will be penalized a late charge on the amount owed each month. If you don't make the payment by a certain date, they will put your name in the paper, and anyone who wants to buy your tax receipt can make the payment, and claim certain rights to your mortgage free property.
If you save money and put it in the bank, you will get a nice 1099 each year that requires you to pay a portion of your interest to the government. In a way the whole process is a means of extortion. In fact, its almost mafia like, you know the saying; "screw you, pay me!"
So, every year, I write the check, and admit to myself that my home isn't really mine. Saving money is great if the interest is tax free, or you are as fortunate as George Soros and the Kennedy's, who hide their assets in Fiji in off-shore trusts.
You gotta love the socialists, they want us to pay while they pour considerable assets into foreign trusts.
The Socialist/ Liberals are Very Strange People
I Don't Recognize the Conservatives Anymore Either
Here are a few items that you may have missed from our mainstream media;
1) New Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has appointed Louisiana represenatative William Jefferson (D-LA) to the Homeland Security Committee. The FBI found $90,000 in Jefferson's freezer for allegedly accepting bribes involving and African technology company. Google the name William Jefferson, Democrat and see what comes up.
2) U.S. Border Patrol agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean are serving 22 years in federal prison for shooting and wounding a Mexican drug smuggler after catching him sneaking marijuana and cocaine into the United States.
President Bush has ignored appeals to pardon the agents after more than a hundred members of Congress sent the President letters asking for a pardon. Now the drug dealer is suing the Border Patrol for $5 million claiming they violated his civil rights. The drug dealer was given immunity.
3) Child molester John Couey, the killer of young Jessica Lunsford was convicted last week. Couey had a 25 year criminal history, and was allowed back out on the street after being convicted twice before killing Jessica Lunsford.
Now defense attorney's and the liberals are arguing to save Couey from a death sentence. Unbelievable!
And Finally, The Market's
The Federal Reserve meets this week, and while no change in interest rates is expected, the market will be watching to see if the Fed alters its policy statement to reflect less concern about inflation.
The Dow closed up 115 points after a wave of corporate takeovers, and a rally in the European and Asian markets markets led the way.
The National Association of Homebuilders Index showed the house market is still very weak.
Today's advance looks like another snap-back rally, and I am not very confident that the rally is sustainable.
